What AMA Leaders are Saying

"I first met Debbie Matthews as a teenager in the 1990's. I aspired to become a Professional Women’s Motocross racer and Debbie worked tirelessly to help women have their own professional classes during the "Men’s" Pro National events.

She also founded a very successful coaching company, WSMX-Women’s School of Motocross, the first of its kind in the world, specifically for women athletes and pleasure riders from learn to ride to advanced. This provided athletes technique coaching, and boot camps, as well as training in marketing and sponsorship relationships.  Her groundbreaking coaching strategies and techniques along with her business sense created a very successful coaching business which she still oversees today 25 years after its inception, which I was later a part of as her Texas area trainer.  Together, we worked to promote race events and riding schools for many years. I consider her to be one of my favorite people. She has been a mentor to me and many, many young athlete’s over the years."

WHAT AMA Leaders are Saying

"Debbie Matthews, is a strong, smart, goal oriented woman. I first met Debbie when I started racing motocross in 1998. I came across a website with her WML (women’s Motocross League) page.

I contacted her about joining and that I was older and rode almost all my life but living on the east coast MX wasn’t as big here unless you were in the know. She guided me, and helped me with the confidence to get out there and just do it!

When her series came close enough to me, I drove out to NY to race in one of her races. She was the nicest person, calmed me down yet got me pumped to race! She  was very helpful with all my questions and got me going!

Since then we’ve remained close! I traveled to California in 2003 with my daughter. While there we called Deb to say hi we’re in town! Without hesitation she said when can you get here, we’re going to the Supercross opener, want to come?! That’s just how she is!

When I was having some difficulties in my life, she happened to just call to check in with me! She found she called at the right time! She talked to me for hours, helped me see what I think I already knew but just couldn’t see it in front of me. She’s a wonderful mentor, coach, friend, & leader.

If she needed anything, I’d do all I could do help her out. Debbie just has this way about her that makes others comfortable around her. She was recently inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which was long overdue in my eyes! She has enriched my life in many ways, and I feel I’m a better person for it!"
